Catering trailer insurance

It provides protection should an employee or a member of the public bring a claim against you for injury or property damage as a result of you business activities.
Typical trades would include baked potato ovens, buffet caterers, general caterers, contract caterers, coffee rounds, farmers’ markets, hog roasts & barbecues or market stall caterers.

Employers’ Liability is a legal requirement if you employ anyone but Public and Product Liability is vital. Read our guide to catering insurance to find out the differences between cover types.

Catering Trailer Insurance from Moving Food provides specialist cover for mobile or permanently sited catering trailers, including the trailer itself, its fixtures and fittings, and optional public and products liability and employers’ liability insurance.

The policy is designed for any catering trailer used for commercial food vending, whether it moves between locations or is kept in a fixed position. This includes burger trailers, converted horse boxes, hot dog trailers, coffee trailers, hog roast trailers, and similar setups.

The standard policy covers the trailer itself and any fixtures and fittings. Public and products liability up to £10 million and employers’ liability up to £10 million are available as optional additions.

Yes, we offer the ability to cover unlimited catering trailers on a single policy, which is ideal for operators who run more than one unit.

Moving Food offers new-for-old cover for trailers up to three years old, meaning a total loss claim would be settled at the cost of a new equivalent trailer rather than the depreciated value.

Optional extensions include: business interruption insurance, stock cover (for non-fixed contents), deterioration of stock following a refrigeration breakdown, portable catering equipment cover, theft from an unattended vehicle or trailer, and legal expenses cover.

No, the trailer policy covers the trailer and its contents. The towing vehicle needs to be insured separately, for example under Moving Food’s Mobile Catering Van Insurance if it is also used for trading.

Public liability and employers’ liability are optional add-ons to the trailer policy rather than being included automatically. Moving Food recommends that all traders include liability cover, and most event sites will require proof of public liability insurance before allowing you to trade.
